Princess Elizabeth School Profile

Princess Elizabeth Public School is situated in the area of London once known as Chelsea Green, at the corner of Thompson Road and Adelaide Street. The original school on this site was Chelsea Green School. The school was built in 1949 and received additions in 1954, 1958, 1970, and 2014.

The school was named after Princess Elizabeth who later became Queen. Princess Elizabeth has a multicultural population. Students from the neighbourhood attend the school. Princess Elizabeth is also a holding area for the Summerside subdivision.

In 2007-08 the French Immersion program was added. Princess Elizabeth now has a combined population of approximately 670 students. The French Immersion program includes students in Senior Kindergarten through Grade 8. The English program includes students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8.

Princess Elizabeth is a single storey, wheelchair accessible building. The school has 31 classrooms as well as the Library, two fully equipped gyms, a music room, a computer lab, and a servery. The school grounds are vast, providing ample opportunity for year round outdoor activities. Our school pledge includes the characteristics that we believe define "Pawsitive Panthers" - I am Safe, I am Kind, I am Fair, I am Respectful, I am Responsible. We are devoted to providing a safe, caring and stimulating learning environment in which learners will develop physically, socially emotionally and intellectually in order to become responsible contributing members of society. Our teachers support their students in encouraging a positive self-concept, by providing programming for individual student’s needs and by offering a wide variety of teaching and learning opportunities. Through an integrated approach, we also stress the importance of computers and problem solving skills.

At Princess Elizabeth we believe that children achieve best results when home and school work together on their behalf. We encourage clear two-way lines of communication as well as active parental involvement in the children’s education.

We are on a Balanced Day with three blocks of 100 minutes of instructional time.

Measures of Student Achievement and Success

At Thames Valley, we believe that assessment and evaluation of student achievement are integral parts of the learning process. Information gathered through assessment and evaluation helps teachers to determine students’ strengths and areas for growth in their achievement of the curriculum expectations. It also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students’ needs and in assessing the overall effectiveness of programs and classroom practices. A variety of methods are used to gauge student progress including: teacher observation, classroom tests, projects and other examples of student work. For more information on our school’s provincial assessment results, visit the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).
