General School Description

Northridge Public School was opened officially in November 1964. The nine-acre site boasts a large playground with a soccer field, playground equipment and a large hill used for spring and fall activities. The two-story brick building is comprised of classrooms, a library learning commons (library and computer labs), a gymnasium, a stage, an activity room, a servery, and an instrumental music room. There are also eight portables on site.

School Organization

Northridge is a Full-Day Kindergarten to Grade 8 school which offers students a combination of straight and split grades.  Northridge has 45 teachers, 6 Early Childhood Educators, 3 educational assistants, 3.5 custodians, 2 secretaries and 2 administrators.  We are also a site for the London Children's Connection before and after school program and the Extended Day Program.

Goals

Our goal this year is as follows: staff and students will use a variety of number models and demonstrate flexibility when solving problems to communicate our thinking in mathematics.

Co-instructional Activities

Students at Northridge continue their learning and development by participating in their choice of activities and clubs. These extra activities occur during the school day as well as before and after school hours. Students can be involved in student's council, choir, band, athletics, community service, environmental activities, chess club, healthy schools committee, and milk monitors.

Volunteers at the School

Our school has volunteers in many areas. Our parent group (NPTA) is the fund raising body at the school. Their efforts provide playground equipment, trips and additional materials for classes. The Milk Moms run the daily milk program for students. Many parents provide individual support to students through reading and other small group sessions. Supervision on trips is another way volunteers support our school.

Measures of Student Achievement and Success

At Thames Valley, we believe that assessment and evaluation of student achievement are integral parts of the learning process. Information gathered through assessment and evaluation helps teachers to determine students' strengths and weaknesses in their achievement of the curriculum expectations. It also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students' needs and in assessing the overall effectiveness of programs and classroom practices. A variety of methods are used to gauge student progress including: teacher observation, classroom tests, projects and other examples of student work. For more information on our school's provincial assessment results, visit the Education Quality and Accountability Office.
