About Us

General School Description

Nicholas Wilson Public School was named after an educator, Nicholas Wilson (1827-1909). He was the first Head Master at Union School in 1850 and was a teacher in the London area for 62 years. Many aldermen and prominent people in the city of London had been educated by this gentleman and to honour him our school was named after him. Nicholas Wilson is a one story school which was built in the "open concept" model in 1971. There are four quads and a gymnasium which surround the open resource centre, the core of the school. In the past years one corner of each quad has been walled but the quad situation continues to support much collaboration and team work between teachers and classrooms.

Volunteers at the school

Volunteers are appreciated and welcome. To become a volunteer, complete a volunteer application form. When it is returned to you take that with you to the London Police station to have the fee for the "Vlunerable Sector Screening" reduced. Refer to the Board's policy - Criminal Background Check, Volunteers or contact the school for more information.

Measures of Student Achievement and Success

At Thames Valley, we believe that assessment and evaluation of student achievement are integral parts of the learning process. Information gathered through assessment and evaluation helps teachers to determine students' strengths and weaknesses in their achievement of the curriculum expectations. It also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students' needs and in assessing the overall effectiveness of programs and classroom practices. A variety of methods are used to gauge student progress including: teacher observation, classroom tests, projects and other examples of student work. For more information on our school's provincial assessment results, visit the Education Quality and Accountability Office.
